Recognise and name ableism!
This should be said again today, on the day of protest, because the recent murders of four people with “disabilities” in Potsdam have shown how important it is to recognise and name ableism. We have to expose the evaluation of people on the basis of their abilities in everyday life. There it often happens in passing and not so obviously…and that’s exactly where people are needed who stand up, classify this as disability-hostile and stand by the discriminated person. In addition, there is an urgent need for all people to be willing to reflect their own, often unwittingly discriminatory language. As with racist and sexist structures, we are also born into and socialised in ableist ones.
